DURATION : 6 H
PRICE: 125 PLN / 32 EUR per person

More about Auschwitz Birkenau:

Auschwitz-Birkenau (1941 - 1945) was the largest of Nazi Germany's concentration camps. Located in German-occupied southern Poland, it took its name from the nearby town of Oświęcim, situated within the range of about 60 kilometers from Kraków, and 280 kilometers from Warsaw. The complex consisted of three main camps: Auschwitz I - the administrative centre, Auschwitz II (Birkenau) – an extermination camp, and Auschwitz III (Monowitz) – a work camp. In 1990, the figure of the people killed in the camp was placed at 1.1 – 1.6 million. About 90 percent of them were Jews from almost every European country. Most of the dead were killed in gas chambers using Zyklon B; other deaths were caused by systematic starvation, forced labor, lack of disease control, individual executions, and the so-called medical experiments. At the end of the war, the SS made great efforts to destroy what remained of the camp, burn the archives, and murder all the people they referred to as the „Bearers of Secrets”. However, they did not manage to destroy everything; evidence, witnessess, and memory still exist.. Auschwitz is a legible and unambiguous symbol that touches upon the fullness of human heart. It is no accident that more and more people visit the former camp every year. Only in 2007, more than 1.2 million people came to learn about what remains of the most horrible secret of the Third Reich

More about Wieliczka Salt Mine:

One widely-traveled Frenchman observed in the 18th century that Krakow's Wieliczka salt mine was no less magnificent than the Egyptian pyramids. "The historic Salt Mine in Wieliczka is the only site in the world where mining has continued since the Middle Ages. Lying on nine levels, its original excavations (longitudinals, traverses, chambers, lakes, as well as lesser and major shafts) stretch for the total of 300 kilometres: reaching the depth of 327 metres they illustrate all the stages of the development of the mining technology over time." The quotation comes from the justification of entering the Wieliczka Salt Mine into UNESCO's 1st World List of Cultural and Natural Heritage on 8th September, 1978 together with 11 other sites from all over the world. The mine is also notable for a long tradition of tourism: the famous, breath-taking site has been visited over the centuries by Nicolaus Copernicus, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Alexander von Humboldt, Dimitri Mendeleev, Boleslaw Prus, Ignacy Paderewski, Pope John Paul II, crowned heads, as well millions of people from all over the world. The salt mine forms an "underground town" with churches, lakes and passages.

More about the tour:

Wadowice, with its stunning baroque architecture, is a charming town located 50 km to the west of Krakow. But apart from its architecture, the most important fact about Wadowice is that it is a hometown of the greatest of Poles i.e. Karol Wojtyla, known as Pope John Paul II. Our trip to Wadowice starts with a visit to the flat in which John Paul II was born on 18th May 1920. This is where he had spent all his childhood till he moved to Krakow to study at college. The place was turned into museum soon after Karol Wojtyla had been elected the 263rd Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. The next important point of the trip is a nearby church where he was baptised and then served as an altar boy. As a part of the tour you will also see Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Sancturay – a place of pilgrimage for many Catholics and a park complex from the 17th century, placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. As a priest and then Pope, John Paul II loved to walk the paths of the sancturay, which he found a great spiritual experience.

More about Zakopane:

Without doubt Zakopane is the most beautifil city in Southern Poland. Located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, it is the most popular skii resort in Poland. When it comes to outdoor activities like skiing, rock climbing, rafting, mountaineering, cycling or paragliding etc. there is no place like Zakopane that better serves these purposes. The city is also home to hundreds of sport tournamnets taking place all year round. In the immediate vicinity of Zakopane there is a land of natural beauty and wildlife preserved in The Tatra National Park – one of the oldest national parks in Poland. If you love hiking or mountain biking this a perfect place for you. But Zakopane boasts more than that. Before the World War I it had been widely regarded as the art and culture capital of Poland. The city had owed its status to many eminent artists, writers, and musicians who had settled there. Among them was Stanislaw Witkiewicz – a painter and father of Zakopane style in architecture, Ignacy Paderewski - a world-class pianist, as well as Karol Szymanowski - one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. Having so many notable residents Zakopane has been the host of numerous music and theatre festivals. What also makes Zakopane so special is its folklore. Nowhere else can you hear the Podhale dialect – language spoken by the highlanders living in the Tatra Mountains, admire their beautiful hand-made outfits, taste a smoked cheese made of salted sheep milk (oscypek), listen to the traditional music or peek how local art is being made.

The tour aims at showing the way Nowa Huta looked like in the past when it was a town in the vicinity of Krakow before it was incorporated as a district. We have chosen authentic cars from the Communist times, so that everyone can experience those propagandist times and understand the paradox of the "old system." We are not going to take you on a Nowa Huta show but to present facts and the real way Nowa Huta looked like, so as to show the authentic vision of Nowa Huta and Communism in Poland in the years 1950-1989. Our programme aims at delivering maximum historic information about Nowa Huta as well as deriding the "old system."
